Designing a Legacy: The Astley Cup Centenary Logo
This year, Bathurst celebrates a proud milestone — the 100th anniversary of the Astley Cup, one of the longest-running school sporting competitions in the country. Spanning generations, the Astley Cup has brought together local schools, athletes, and supporters, becoming a symbol of community spirit and pride.
When asked to design the official centenary logo, Belmond knew the task was about more than creating a mark — it was about capturing a century of history, rivalry, and tradition.
The final logo balances heritage with modern design. At its heart sits the iconic trophy, simplified into a clean silhouette that’s instantly recognisable. Surrounding it are bold lines that represent movement, energy, and the unbroken continuity of 100 years of competition. The “100 Years” lockup is integrated into the design, giving weight to the milestone while ensuring the logo feels timeless, not temporary.
Colour played a vital role too — drawing inspiration from Bathurst’s sporting culture, while ensuring the design works seamlessly across uniforms, banners, and digital platforms. The result is a logo that not only honours the past but also feels fresh and future-focused.
The Astley Cup is more than a sporting event — it’s a tradition that has shaped school pride and brought Bathurst together for a century. Belmond is proud to have played a part in its 100-year story, ensuring this milestone is celebrated with a symbol worthy of its legacy.
