Bathurst River Cafe House

One of Bathurst’s most storied landmarks is entering a new chapter this year. The historic 1834 site, formerly known as the Bathurst River Café, has officially relaunched as The River House, unveiling a sophisticated brand identity and an expanded service offering that bridges colonial history with modern luxury.

A Mediterranean Transformation

The relaunch marks a significant evolution for the Stephens Lane property. While the building remains a cornerstone of Bathurst’s 19th-century architecture, its new identity introduces a "Mediterranean-inspired" aesthetic. Visitors can expect the familiar warmth of the riverside café elevated by a refined palette of soft beiges and river blues, mirroring the tranquil Macquarie-Wambuul landscape.

More Than Just a Café

The River House is expanding beyond its reputation for seasonal brunch and artisanal coffee. The relaunch introduces:

  • Boutique Airbnb Accommodation: For the first time, guests can immerse themselves in the site’s heritage with premium stays. The new accommodation offering allows travelers to sleep within the walls of the 1834 structure, blending original masonry with contemporary comforts.

  • Community Hub & Events: With a focus on the "House" as a gathering place, the venue is set to host an increased calendar of community events, from riverside markets to private functions and cultural celebrations.

  • Mediterranean Flavours: The menu continues to evolve, leaning into fresh, coastal-inspired dishes that complement the sun-drenched, alfresco dining areas.

Honoring the 1834 Legacy

"It was vital that the new brand respected the heritage of one of Bathurst’s oldest surviving buildings," says the design team at Belmond Creative. "The goal was to create something simple and timeless—using line-art illustrations that feel as relevant today as the building did nearly 200 years ago."

As Bathurst continues to grow as a premier regional destination, The River House stands as a testament to the city's ability to preserve its colonial soul while offering world-class hospitality.

The River House is now open for bookings and café service. For more information on the restoration and upcoming events, visit www.belmondcreative.com/projetcs/bathurst-river-house.
